“The wild dog” invades prestigious US gallery

The book recording the art journey of Made Wianta, a Balinese notable artist getting a nickname “wild dog” in Bali, will be reviewed in a prominent book store in New York, the United States.
This book entitled “Wild Dogs in Bali” written by Prof Dr Robert C Morgan will be reviewed at the book store Barness and Noble of New York, on the sidelines of the holding of an exhibition by Wianta in the same city, starting from June 18 to August 6, 2005.
To Antara, Wianta recently said here that the book containing the journey of his art career and some of his works would be evaluated in the US. “The review is going to be conducted concomitantly with the display of my works in the Uncle Sam country,” Wianta said. After a success in displaying blood installation saying about the Bali bombing, “the wild dog” will be again to perform similar work, themed “explosion” to the US.
The installation entitled “Stairway to Heaven”, in form of a bridge leading to the truth that emerges after the blasts at Tentena market, Poso, Central Sulawesi, will be shown in a prestigious art gallery, Mike Weiss Gallery, in New York, the US.
Accompanying that spectacular work, there are 50 drawings and paintings. He ever exhibited his hand touches at “Biennalle Open 2003” in Venetia, Italy. Wianta admitted the opportunity to display artworks at the gallery mentioned was a rare chance as not any artist could exhibit works there. It is all should thank to the good deed of art critic and curator Prof Dr Robert C Morgan, who is also the writer of the “Wild Dogs in Bali”. Morgan, who is a Doctor of Contemporary Arts and has written several books on arts, has been in love with Wianta’s works since he saw them for the first time at the arena of “Biennalle” in Venetia.
After knowing each other, this professor at School of Visual Arts of New York then joined Wianta to Bali to collect the artist’s masterpieces.
Some 20 drawings and paintings were collected, which then by Morgan, were asked to be shown in an art gallery in the US. In conjunction to the request Wianta then gave another 30 paintings and an installation work themed Tentena bombing.
Jean Couteau, a Doctor of Arts from France, mentioned that Wianta was the only Indonesian artist who managed to display works at the US gallery mentioned. “It’s hard to enter the gallery. Only an artist with artworks internationally recognized could display works there,” Couteau who now resides in Bali said. Related to the book “Wild Dogs in Bali”, he said further in the same tone with the writer that he saw Wianta as a wild dog too, by seeing his works that were always restless.
Wianta never satisfies with certain styles and genres, but always chases other findings to be the themes and models for his works. “He is indeed like a wild dog,” Couteau, who is also a culturist, said. *pry/ant

EXAMPLE-Wianta is indeed a Bali’s extraordinary artist. Actually, Bali has a lot more potential artists. They just need a bit determination and confidence to show their potentials.
