Indonesia should eye host
for Adex
Sanur
- Indonesia should make an effort to enable itself as
the host of ADEX/Asia Diving Expo that for this year is scheduled
to be taking place in Bangkok Convention Centre, Thailand
from March 31 to April, 2005.
The head of Bali’s Gahawisri (Association of Marine
Tourism’s Entrepreneurs), Yos K Amerta in Sanur, Denpasar,
recently said, by hosting the event, world residents would
be convinced on the great potential of Indonesian marine tourism.
Over the last few years, ADEX has been held in Singapore,
but ridiculously, the country has no marine wealth worth selling.
There is only an artificial object of sea world.
“Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, ever became
the hosts for ADEX, in the meantime Indonesia has never been
a host for it,” he said.
According to this owner of Yos Marine Adventure (an operator
of water sport), to enable Indonesia hosting the exhibition,
an integrated cooperation between the government and privates
in lobbying, funding, and conduct was required.
If a team composed by the government and privates are formed,
then they should do the bidding. “The government is
needed as a guarantor in giving security and funding to make
world tourism society convinced,” he said.
The strong desire to be the host, Yos mentioned, was to chase
the lagged behind condition of Indonesian marine tourism that
all this time was seen with one eye. Meanwhile, destinations
of marine tourism in the neighboring countries have managed
to lure foreign guests, as they are managed well.
The government has started to show itself to pay attention
for marine tourism as for this year Department of culture
and Tourism is going to join ADEX in Bangkok. In fact, Bali
marine tourism operators have regularly joined ADEX each year.
“Despite the first joining, it has been able to give
a sign that Department of Culture and Tourism has started
to eye marine tourism in Indonesia to be promoted. After this,
we hope this country has the target to be able to host ADEX,”
he expected.
